The Fallout series is undeniably one of the best game series developed to date. They’re fun, they’re well made and finally, they’re extremely adventurous. After the first Fallout game was released in 1997, the saga has spread over 18 years, and it is about to be continued with the upcoming release of Fallout 4. I have high expectations for Fallout 4, but there are a few things that I, and many other games would like to see in the upcoming game.
More Cities: A problem with Fallout: NV, was that there was only 1 main city. New Vegas. Don’t get me wrong, I loved everything to do with New Vegas, the people, the security robots. I wish there was more to see. It was mainly one strip, and the town of Freeside for us to explore. I wish there was another city, more towns, more story in the world for us to enjoy.
Livelier Cities, Roads and Towns: Every road in the fallout series was dead. Apart from a camp every 10 miles, full of 4 bandits, or the odd travelling trader. I understand it is set in a wasteland environment, but the dull roads make travelling boring. If the roads had more people to meet, and more bandits to kill, perhaps the player would be less inclined to fast-travel, and walk to the destination knowing that they have no idea what is in store for them on the way.
Make Character Creation matter: Character creation means nothing in Fallout games. You spend hours creating a face and body for your new game, then you barely see it. I feel that character creation more immersive, make it count. Add in features where depending on your body type, you are limited to what items you can carry, or how long you can run. Change people’s weight depending on how far they run, or how little they eat. Make skin colour matter, i’m not saying that Bethesda should make a racist game, i'm saying they should immerse the character completely. Make it so you can change your character without joining a faction, or having to buy a DLC.
Revamp the Karma system: The karma system isn't balanced to say the least. I nuked Megaton in Fallout 3. I completely annihilated a full town of people. Fair to say I lost a lot of karma, but by helping out the community again I managed to regain that karma. From meaningfully nuking a town, I could climb back up the karma ladder by killing a few bandits with the Lawbringer perk, or donating to the church in Rivet city. Doesn’t really add up does it? Make a system, where the harder the game difficulty, the easier it is to loose karma, the harder it is to regain karma.
Steam Workshop, Damnit!: The steam workshop is a hub for all modders, new or old. If Bethesda added functionality for the Steam Workshop, possibilities would be endless. You could install/uninstall mods with a click. NMM* is easy yes, but it could be easier with Steam Workshop. It is the third busiest mod distribution platforms. Not only would it be easier for newcomers to the scene, it is a chance for Fallout 4 to be extremely easily modded; which for some players is the lifeline of the fallout series.
